MIKE MORAN is THE IOWA GOATSINGER
A strong songwriter and an expressive interpreter of established music, Mike Moran gives a good show. A gifted storyteller, Moran incorporates stories, jokes, and puppets into each performance, keeping things quick and sharp and playful.
The Goatsinger Mythic
The Goatsinger Mythic is a live, shifting blend of music, puppetry, storytelling, and spoken word—smart, strange, and full of heart. The Goatsinger Mythic mixes bluesy laments with a few mischievous sketches, and then digs into some soul-deep songs.

The Goatsinger Mythic is a naughty, bluesy, sometimes-funny-sometimes-intense sort of show.

Flexible in its time. There is a thirty-minute version, a forty-five-minute version; and a seventy-minute version.

Family Programs
As a family performer who mixes storytelling, music, ventriloquism, and puppetry, Moran often drawing from children’s literature and always aiming for something honest and engaging. His shows invite kids and adults alike to laugh, listen, and lean in. Expect songs with soul, characters with bite, and stories that stick. Whether it’s a fast-talking puppet or a moment of quiet wonder, he makes it count.

Churches
Given the opportunity, Moran loves a morning drive to any church, just to offer up a few words of hope and love and to lead the congregation in a handful of spirituals.

Bars, Clubs, and Restaurants
With a crackling voice that can drop to a make-your-innards-quiver bass before sailing up to a wailing, break-your-heart-wide-open tenor, he attacks his original blues, his tin-pan-alleyesque pop songs, his splatter of spirituals, and all those lovely singalong folksongs with heart and humor. Each set ends or begins with a bit of playfulness: the goat puppet, BamBam may wander and sass the crowd, or Chill Daniel – that steampunk-land-of-Oz character – may take a moment to dance to one of the tunes. Locking in his harmonica to blow while he beats on Six-String Maybelline or his spanking little rhythm-stick, Tilly Shakespeare, Moran moves quickly, often up on his feet, from one song to the next, pausing only when a joke requires it. And he ends each song with a shake and a pose.

House Concerts
Crafting a show taking place in in someone's home is one of Moran's favorite things to do. His thirty-plus-year history of stage and theatre work - as actor, director, playwright, sound-designer, lighting designer, and stage manager - provides him with a unique edge in this sort of thing. Working with the host, Moran can craft an enjoyable stretch of time for your guests, in a way that best captures what's needed for the party.
